George Billings was born about 1 October 1795 at Pennsylvania.1,2 He married Elizabeth Towner, daughter of Elijah Towner and Mary Knapp, about 1820 at Sheshequin, Bradford Co., Pennsylvania.3 He married Lydia Horton in 1838 at Sheshequin.3 He married Lucy Ann (---) about 1846 at Sheshequin.4 He died 21 April 1861 at Chana, Ogle Co., Illinois, aged "65y 6m 20d."5 He was buried at Cooley/Seaworth Cemetery, Pine Rock Township, Ogle Co., Illinois.5
There is a second George Billings in Bradford County, somewhat younger than "ours." He was born c. 1802-04, the son of Renselaer Billings. This George can be traced through Renselaer's probate file, land, and census records. George finally leaves a will in Minnesota in the late 1870's.
Our George was a resident of Sheshequin from 1822 to 1850. For years he occupied the Horace Horton place from which he and Lydia removed to Illinois.
Federal Census records consistently show him to be born about 1795 in Connecticut, and he simply appears in Bradford Co., Pennsylvania in 1822 according to the county histories.
There is a Henry Billings who was in Warren Township, Bradford county, by 1804 but was gone from the records by 1812.6,7,8
George Billings left a will dated 27 February 1861 at La Salle Co., Illinois, filed 26 Apr 1861. Lists: sons Eze[ny], Leonard, Enoch T., Alfonzo, & Joseph; daughters Olive Elliott, Emily Horten, Eunice Patterson (deceased); and wife, Lucy Ann. Mentions land in Adair Co, Iowa.8
