John Robinson was christened 9 February 1612 at Meppershall, Bedfordshire, England.1 He married Elizabeth Pemberton, daughter of (---) Pemberton, before 1640 at Newburyport, Essex Co., Massachusetts.1 He died 10 November 1675 at Exeter, Rockingham Co., New Hampshire.1,2

First recorded in New England on a list of twelve Newbury men who stated their intentions to settle at Haverhill, Massachusetts. In 1644 he purchased a home in Haverhill from Joseph Merry and he probably started residing there about that time.

In April 1649 he became a feeman ahd served on the jury of trials held at Salisbury (the shire town) in 1649 and 1653. He sold his house lot in Haverhill to Thomas Lilfurth in August 1651.

In 1650, he granted a power of attorney to Robert Pike of Salisbury to "receive a certaine legacie given him by John Robinson of Mapursall in Countie of Bedford Blacksmith his father. . . ."

He purchased a house and land in Exeter, New Hampshire February 1651/2. In October 1652, he oversaw the work on the new Exeter meeting house and in October 1653 was chosen and sworn clerk of the market for Exeter. He served as selectman for Exeter in 1653, 1661, 1666-7, and 1673. He was on a committee to settle small claims in 1668.

In Haverhill he was known as a farrier (blacksmith), but Exeter deeds of 1654 and 1667 call him a planter.

He was ambushed, shot, and killed by Indians on 10 Nov 1675 while on his way to Hampton, New Hampshire. His son was with him, but managed to escape.

At court in Hampton Falls on 30 May 1676, his widow, Elizabeth and son David were appointed administrators of his estate. On 6 April 1677, they rendered an account of the estate to the court; on 6 Dec 1678 they sold 20 acres in Exeter to John Sinkler.1
