Matilda had enough by 1883, and apparently at the invitation of some relatives (perhaps Higginsons), took her ten children (ranging in age from 4 to 18) and left England bound for America from Liverpool, arriving in Philadelphia, 13 March 1883, on the American Line steamer, S.S. Lord Gough.9
