Emerson Cogswell was born in 1699; Date calculated based on "aged 89" at death.3,4 He married Mary Pecker, daughter of James Pecker and Susannah [Edwards], 30 December 1736 at Ipswich, Essex Co., Massachusetts.5,6 He died 29 March 1788 at Concord, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts.4

Emerson Cogswell was a tanner and courier. After his marriage, he resided some years in Ipswich. His house stood near the present station on the Eastern Railroad (as of 1884, the site of Damon's Block). He did business near the stone bridge in Ipswich.7
