David Atwater, son of John Atwater and Susan Narsin, was born probably shortly before his baptism at Lenham, Kent, England, 8 October 1615.1,2 He died at New Haven, Connecticut, 5 October 1692.1,2

David married Damaris Sayre, daughter of Thomas Sayre, say 1647.2,1,3

David Atwater was baptized in the same old marble font in which so many of his ancestors and relatives had been christened. With his brother, Joshua, he came over in the company of Theophilus Eaton, John Davenport and Edward Hopkins. If he went to New Haven with them in the fall of 1637, he soon returned. It is more likely probable that David remained in Boston, and didn't remove to New Haven until the spring of 1638,where he became a prominent man. He received grants of land in New Haven and Joshua Atwater sold "to his brother David Atwater" more land there. He apparently never sought public office but served on various town committees. He made his will 14 April and added a codicil, 9 December 1691. His inventory, taken 28 October 1692, amounted to £551-18-02. The debts, to and from the estate, so nearly balance that this figure represents very closely the net value. (New Haven Probate, 2:135.)1
