Henry William DeSaussure, son of Daniel DeSaussure and Mary McPherson, was born at Pocotaligo, Jasper Co., South Carolina, 16 August 1763.1 He died at Columbia, Richland Co., South Carolina, 26 March 1839.1

Henry married Elizabeth Ford, daughter of Jacob Ford and Theodosia Johnes, at Morristown, Morris Co., New Jersey, 26 May 1785.2

Henry served in the revolution at the siege of Charleston, studied law in Philadelphia, and was admitted to the bar in 1784. He was a member of the South Carolina Convention and South Carolina legisature in 1791, and served for four months as the second director of the United States Mint. He was elected Chancellor of South Carolina and served for twenty years.
