Sir Gilbert de Clare, Knt., 6th Earl of Gloucester, son of Sir Richard de Clare, Knt., 6th Earl of Gloucester and Maud de Lacy, was born at Christchurch, Hampshire, England, 2 September 1243.1 He died at Monmouth Castle, England, 7 December 1295,2 and was buried at Tewkesbury Abbey, Gloucestershire, England.2

Gilbert married (1) Alice de Lusignan, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), about 1253;1 they divorced about 1289;3 he married (2) Joan of England, daughter of Edward I "Longshanks," King of England and Eleanor of Castile, at Westminster Abbey, London, England, 30 April 1290.3
