John Mills, son of John Mills, was born at Pennsylvania, between 1685 and 1690.1 He died at Guilford Co., North Carolina, 24 November 1760.2,1
John married a first wife whose surname might only possibly be Bates, say 1708;1 he married (2) Rebeckah (…), whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), say 1741.2
He was granted 408 acres adjoining father's patent on Mill Creek in what is now Berkeley Co., West Virginia, 12 November 1735.3
In 1743, John Mills conveyed portions of his 1315 acre tract to his four sons. The patent describes the land as being "on the branch of Opeckon, near but not adjoining Lews DeMoss' land." John is named as "John Mill Sr. of Prince George County, Maryland, Farmer," but his sons were all of Frederick Co., Virginia.1
The Cane Creek Monthly Meeting received John by certificate, 1 October 1752, from the Hopewell Monthly Meeting, Opeckan, Virginia.4
Granted 500 acres on Wolf Run.1
Granted 640 acres in Rowan Co., North Carolina; Grant 114 in the Land Grant Office at Raleigh.1
John left a will dated 28 September 1759, and proved in July 1761:
In the Name of God Amen, the 28th Day of September, 1759: I John Mills senior of the County of Rowan & province of North Carolina being sick and weak in body but of sound and perfect memory Thanks be to almighty for the same and calling to mind the uncertainties of this frail and mortal life & that it is appointed for all men once to die and after Death to come to Judgment Do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament disanuling and revoking all former Wills made by me; and as for such worldly Estate it has pleased God to blesse me with in this life I give devise dispose & bequeath of as followith---
Imprimis; First and principally I recommend my Soul to almighty God my Creator. Secondly I recommend my Body to the Earth to be buried in a Christian & decent manner at the Discretion of my Executrix hereafter named.
Item I give and bequeath unto my well beloved Wife Rebecah Mills all my movable Goods Chattels Lands Debts and Demands owe to me to be left to her Discretion for the support of her Children to her & her heirs Executors Administrators and assigns forever.
Item I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Mills by my former Wife one shilling sterling with that part he hath already received to him his heirs and assigns forever.
Item I give and bequeath unto my son John by my former wife one shilling sterling with that part he hath already received to him and his heirs and assigns forever.
Item I give and bequeath unto my son Hur Mills by my former Wife one shilling sterling with that part he hath already received to him and his heirs and assigns forever.
Item I give and bequeath unto my Son Henry Mills by my former Wife one shilling sterling with that part he hath already received to him and his heirs and assigns forever.
Item I give and bequeath unto Daughter Mary Beeson by my former Wife one shilling sterling with that part he hath already received to him and his heirs and assigns forever.
Item I nominate and appoint my well beloved wife Rebekah Mills whole and sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my Seal this twenty eight Day of September one thousand seven hundred & fifty nine. Signed, sealed and published and pronounced by the said John Mills sen. As his last Will and Testament.5
