Joan Roberts, daughter of Walter Roberts and Isabel Colpeper, was born between 1481 and 1491.1 She died about 1547/48.2
Joan married (1), as his 2nd wife, Richard Exhurst, son of John Exhurst and Alice (…), between 1502 and 1507;3 she married (2) Thomas Horden, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), after 1512.4
"The evidence...suggests Walter Robers' second wife Isabel Culpepper was likely the mother of Joan (Roberts) (Exhurst) Horden but does not definitively disprove the claim that Joan's mother was Margaret Penn. We note however, that while the 1592 and 1629 Roberts pedigrees both explicitly state that Joan was the daughter of Margaret Penn, other apparent errors in these pedigrees suggest that the compiler was not fully informed about the relationships in this generation."
Given the question surrounding the question of Joan's mother, the ancestry of the first two of Walter Roberts' wives is curtailed with the parents. Significantly more extensive ancestry is known about each, especially for Isabel Culpepper.5
