John de Gainsford, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), died in 1358.1

John married Margaret Poyle, daughter of Sir John Poyle, Knt. and Mabilia (…), between 1331 and 1333.1

John de Gainsford was probably a native of Gaynesford, co. Durham, who had come to London to practice law. He apparently prospered to the extent that he could make regular land purcases in the neighboring county. He served on various commissions of oyer and terminer, was a justiciar on the King's Court, and last appeared in the records in 1358. His wife was often named with her husband in land grants or purchases between 1333 and 1348.1
