John Lefferty, whose parents are unknown, was born about 1741.1 He died 2 December 1776,1 and was buried at Lamington Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Lamington, Somerset Co., New Jersey, where his stone is inscribed:
Here likes the Body of
John Leferty Esquire
who departed this life Dec-
ember the second anno Dom.
1776 in the 35th year of his
age.1
John married Elizabeth Johnes, daughter of Timothy Johnes and Elizabeth Sayre, at Morristown, Morris Co., New Jersey, 11 May 1767.2

This might or might not be the same John Lefferty of Somerset Co. who died intestate before 15 September 1779 when Stephen Hunt and Bryan Lefferty were appointed administrators of his estate. The inventory totaled £279 15s 2d, made by Jacob Bosseller and Daniel McEowen, 12 February 1779.3
