John Mitchell was the son of Stephen Mitchell, and perhaps is the John Mitchell of Southampton, who died before 23 Aug 1831 when administration was granted to creditor Thomas Gelston and friend Abraham T. Rose. Bond by Richard Gelston and David M. Sayre. Widow Betsey, and next of kin, Stephen, Nathaniel, I (---), and Adeline Augusta.1
