Joseph Marion Jones, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), was born at South Carolina, 20 March 1810.1,2,3,4,5 He died at Hire, McDonough Co., Illinois, 3 April 1883,6,7 and was buried at South Cemetery, Hire, McDonough Co., Illinois.6

Joseph married Julia Matilda Langwell, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), at Trigg Co., Kentucky, 5 September 1832.8,9,10

His family moved to Trigg Co., Kentucky when Joseph was three. After he married Matilda they moved to Springfield, Illinois in 1834 where he was a brick moulder. In 1841 the family moved to Hancock Co., Illinois and he participated in the Mormon War at Nauvoo.

In 1853 he joined the Methodist Episcopal church at Majorville near Fountain Green. In 1855 he moved to Hire township in McDonough Co.11
