Benjamin Shreve, son of Caleb Shreve and Grace Pancoast, was born at Mansfield, Burlington Co., New Jersey, 7 January 1759.1 He died 16 April 1844,1 and was buried at the Upper Springfield Friends Burying Gound, Wrightstown, Burlington Co., New Jersey.1

Benjamin married Rebecca Lippincott, daughter of Jonathan Lippincott and Mary Cook, 13 April 1785.2,1

Benjamin Shreve was a member of the Society of Friends (Quakers) and was disowned by them, 6 Feb 1783, for having taken part in the Revolutionary War (in 1782 and 1783). It is said he would never acknowledge that he had done wrong in bearing arms, and was never again a member of the society.

He was not married by the Friends, but by a minister.3
