Thomas Whitney, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), was born say 1550.1,2,3,4 He died before 15 April 1637,4 when he was buried at St Margaret, Westminster, Middlesex, England.2

Thomas married Mary Bray, daughter of John Bray and Margaret Haslonde, at St Margaret, Westminster, Middlesex, England, 10 May 1583.5,4

Thomas is not the 3rd son of Robert Whitney of Castleton, Herefordshire. Robert left a will in 1555 giving Thomas his inheritance outright, which he could do only if Thomas an adult. As Thomas Whitney of Westminster is thought to have been born about 1550 or perhaps later (based on his marriage in 1583), he cannot be the son of Robert of Castleton. Ward and Doyle's proposed ancestry for Thomas of Westminster must be set aside. This does not preclude the possibility that there is simply a missing generation.6,7,8

On 10 May 1583, he obtained marriage license from Dean and Chapter of Westminster to marry Mary, daughter of John Bray. Described as "Thomas Whytney of Lambeth Marsh, gentleman. The ceremony was performed at St. Margaret's.

On 22 Feb 1607, he apprenticed his son John to William Pring of the Old Baily, London.

In 1611, he paid the subsidy tax.

On 6 Dec 1615 he was appointed executor on the probate of the will of his father-in-law, John Bray.

On 8 Mar 1624 he apprenticed his son Robert to son John of Isleworth. Thomas was described as "gentleman."

On 8 May 1637, administration of his estate was granted to two sons, Francis and Robert.4
