Richard Leach, son of Richard Leach and Hannah Balch, was born at Wenham, Essex Co., Massachusetts, 15 July 1711.1,2,3 He died at Torrington, Connecticut, in 1805.4

Richard married (1) Margaret Knowlton, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), at Ashford, Connecticut, 17 March 1736;5 he married (2) Amity Bugbee, daughter of Josiah Bugbee and Sarah Hubbard, at Ashford, 2 May 1739.5

Richard Leach left home as a young man, and with his brother Ebenezer, settled at Ashford, Connecticut. By deed dated 11 Nov 1732 he released by quit claim to Samuel Gott of Wenham, Massachusetts his share of his father's estate for £129-15-9. With this money he bought 150 acres at Ashford. Later he sold the Ashford property and removed to Torrington, Connecticut. He was a member of the first church of Torrington where all his children were baptized by Rev. Nathaniel Roberts.6
