Benjamin Halsey
Benjamin Halsey, possibly the son of Samuel Halsey of Southampton, was born 10 December 1721.1 He died 19 February 1788, at age 66.1
Benjamin married, as her 3rd husband, Bethia Parshall, daughter of David Parshall and Mary Gardiner, after 1753.2,3,4
Benjamin was a carpenter by trade, removed to Morristown, N. J., and bought property at Monroe, on the South side of road dividing the townships of Hanover and Morris, and separated from the Morristown and Whippany road by the farm of David Ogden. The property remained in his family for several generations.
He was one of the most prominent men in Morristown. He was called Captain, was County Judge, County Collector during the Revolutionary War, and 14 June 1776, was appointed by the Provincial Congress as one of the five Commissioners to pay the bounty allowed to volunteers. In winter of 1779-80, DuPortail, one of the French officers, with a guard of 25 men, made his headquarters at his house.
Capt. Halsey joined the 1st Pres. Church 31 Jan., 1748, and was a liberal supporter of it.
He was married three times.
1st, Jan. 16, 1747, to Sarah, daughter of Joseph Pruden;
2d, Bethia, widow of Rev. David Youngs, who was born 19 Feb'y, 1724, d. 23 Jan., 1785, aet. 62;
3d, 8 June, 1785, Sarah (Rainer), widow of Captain John Lindsly, who d. 29 March, 1803, aged 67.
NOTE.—Capt. Halsey's 2d wife, Bethia, (called "Piershal"), was b. 19 Feb'y, 1724, m. by Rev. Jas. Davenport, 21 Feb'y, 1743, to Rev. David Young. They had four children.

Hannah, b. 13 June, 1747, (who m. 1st, David Wheeler, and 2d, Capt. Enoch Beach);
Ephraim, b. 26 Oct., 1749;
