John Williams

John Williams, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), was born about 1676.1 He died at Hanover, Morris Co., New Jersey, 8 February 1755,1 and was buried at the First Presbyterian Church of Hanover Cemetery, Hanover, Morris Co., New Jersey, where a stone reads: "Here lyes ye body of John Williams, dec'd Feb 8, 1755 in the 77th year of his age."2,3,4
John is said to be of Watermill in Southampton, Long Island, New York, and if so, is possibly the son of Issac Wilman.
In a paper dated 12 Mar 1751, John Williams of Hanover, cordwainer, gives to his daughter Mary Cook, wife of Ellis Cook, a tract of land estimated at 40 acres, with dwelling upon it, after the decease of himself and wife. In case of her death it was to be given to her five sons, "the eldest named Williams to have a double portion of the same." This lot was "bounded east by Passaick River, west by the Lane or Road, north by John Balls land, and south by Henry Burnet" Witness, Justus Burnet, William Dixon. This paper has not been seen in recent years (as of 2014)
His grave is near his daughter's.1
