Captain Nathaniel Babcock

Captain Nathaniel Babcock, son of James Babcock and Sarah Vose, was born at North Stonington, Connecticut, 6 March 1709/10.1 He died before October 1772.1
Nathaniel married Sarah Billings, daughter of Ensign Joseph Billings and Comfort (…), at Preston, Connecticut, 20 November 1733.1
Although his grandfather had deeded the farm to him, a survey showed the west half was actually in Voluntown and Capt James did not have clear title to it, so Nathaniel had to purchase it for £300 from John Gallup and John Dixon, 13 Mar 1735/6.
They joined the North Stonington Congregational Church in 1738.
Captain Nathaniel Babcock was commissioned Ensign in the Connecticut Militia in 1740, Captain in 1750, by the General Assembly of Connecticut.
25 Feb 1760, he conveyed to his son Nathaniel Jr., "the east part of the land the grantor now lives in in Voluntown, bounded on the south by Stonington land."
On the second Thursday of October, 1772, the General Assembly of Connecticut authorized Nathaniel Babcock and Sarah Babcock, joint administrators of trhe estate of the late Capt. Nathaniel Babcock, to sell forty and 1/2 acres of land. 25 Mar 1773, the land was sold to Elias Babcock. the following day Elias Babcock sold the same land to Nathaniel Babcock, Jr.2
