James Babcock, son of Captain James Babcock and Elizabeth Saunders, was born at Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island, 23 December 1688.1,2 He died at Stonington, Connecticut, 9 April 1731.2

James married Sarah Vose, daughter of Edward Vose and Abigail Sharp, at Milton, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts, 12 June 1706.2

James Babcock and wife Sarah settled on a farm in Stonington, Connecticut, in a part now (1903) known as Pendleton Hill, North Stonington. The land was owned by his father, Capt James Babcock, and was found to lie partly in Stonington and partly in Voluntown.

James and Sarah joined the Stonington Church 8 Aug 1708 and later left to form the North Stonington church in 1727.

James predeceased his father at age 43 and was buried on the family farm; later, his widow, children and grandchildren were also buried there. In 1900 the remains were reinterred at a regular cemetery near the Pendleton Hill meetinghouse, about 1/2 mile from the original site.3
