John Beals, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), died in 1726.1

John married Mary Clayton, daughter of William Clayton and Prudence Lanckford, in 1684.1,2

Bales implies that John Beals came with Fenwick on the Griffin in 1775, but Sheppard found no evidence of it. Notes attached to the FHL catalog entry for Bales seem to have more information than what Bales has in his book:
The earliest known ancestor, John Beales, was born in England in 1650, and immigrated to America in 1675 settling in Salem, New Jersey. He came on the ship Griffin. Two years later in 1677 his name appears on the tax books of what is now Delaware Co., Pennsylvania, as a farmer. He died in East Nottingham, Maryland in 1726.3,4

John was an early settler in the lower part of Aston.1
