Edward Houchin first appears in the records of Goochland Co., Virginina in 1737 on a deed from Henry Webb and his wife Elizabeth to Edward conveying about 250 acres where Edward was currently living for £25 current money of Virginia.3
Edward left a will dated 7 December 1762, and proved 19 Feb 1765:

In the Name of God Amen, I Edward Houtchens of the Parish of St. James Northam In the County of Goochland being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory Thanks be to Almighty God Have thought Fitt of Disposing of my worldly state.
First I Bequeath my Soul to God, secondly my body to the Earth to be buried according to the Discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned and as for such worldly Estate wherewith hath pleased Almighty God to bless me with after my just Debts and Funeral charges are paid I give demise and dispose in the followng manner and form
Item I give to my beloved and lawful wife Aner [Hannah] Houtchens all and singular my movable Estate during her life or widowhood and after her decease then to be equally dvided among all her children then surviving
Item I give to John Clements my son-in-law the plantation whereon my son John Houtchens formerly lived with the third part of three hundred and fifty acres joining the said plantation.
Item I give my son Charles Houtchens the plantation whereon he now lives with the third part of the said tract above mentioned.
Item I give my son Francis Houtchens the plantation whereon I now live with his third part of the Land above mentioned.
I appoint my two sons Charles and Francis Houtches My whole and sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament as Witness my hand and seal ths Seventh day of December 1762
