Robert de Brus

Robert de Brus, son of Robert de Brus and Agnes de Paganell, was born about 1124.1 He died 1194.2
Robert married Euphemia (…), whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here).2
Sometimes called 'le meschin,' or the younger, Robert received from his father his scottish possessions of Annandale, just before the Battle of the Standard in 1138.
In what is perhaps a somewhat strange arrangement, he and his father were on different sides of the battle. Only fourteen at the time, his father took him "prisoner," and then sent him to King Stephen, who in turn sent the son to his mother at Skelton. The deal appears to have been a scheme to prevent the family lands from being forfeited out of the family, no matter who won the battle.
Robert had another grant from his father for certain lands at Durham, as Annandale had no wheaten bread. He also had a confirmation of that land from William the Lion, dated at Locmaben, about 1166.1
