Ellis Cook

Ellis Cook, son of John Cook and Mehetabel Howell, was born in 1724.1 He died 16 November 1808, in his 84th year,1 and was buried at Hillside Cemetery, Madison, Morris Co., New Jersey.1
Ellis married (1) Sarah Wortman, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here);1,2 he married (2), as her 2nd husband, Sarah Howard, possibly the daughter of Joseph Howard and Mary (…), 28 September 1789.1,2
Sometime after publishing Notes, George Cook identified this Ellis Cook as a son of John Cook of Southampton. Given Ellis' age, this can only be John3, but no evidence is given. Certainly Ellis is a grandson of John2 or Abiel2 Cook, but other sons of John or Abiel could also be the father.3
Ellis left a will dated 7 April 1801, (with a codicil dated 5 Aug 1807) and proved 22 December 1808:

to grandson, Ellis Morris, £30 when 21;
to grandson, Benjamin Cook, (son of my son, Benjamin) and to heirs and assigns, all my houses lands tenements in Morris Co., if he should attain the age of 21 years, or marry and leave lawful heirs; but if said Benjamin should die before 21 and without heirs, same to be divided between all surviving grandchildren, allowing 2 shares of the whole to the daughters, or daughter of my son, Benjamin (deceased), and the remiander in equal shares among children of my three daughters, Keziah Morris, Mary Miller, and Sarah Ward
to daughter-in-law Sarah Cook (widow of son Benjamin), use and profit of real estate herein given by me to her son Benjamin, that she may support and educate the children of said son, Benjamin, as long as she remains his widow, but if she should marry before the youngest child attains lawful age, executors to take charge of the estate taking care for support of said children. If Benjamin lives to take full possession of property, he is to pay each of his sisters £150;
Residue of personal estate to be divided between surviving grandchildren as the sons reach 21 and the daughters reach 18;
