Joseph Kitchell, son of Ambrose Kitchell and Betsey / Eliza Mulford, was born in 1803.1 He died in 1893,2 and was buried at Hanover Cemetery, East Hanover, Morris Co., New Jersey.2

Joseph married Anna Maria Ely, daughter of Moses Ely and Rebekah Cook, in 1836.3

"The Morristown Chronicle of April 14, 1899, in an article on Hanover Church mentions the fact that Elder Joseph Kitchell of Hanover Neck, was one of the escorts of Lafayette from Newark through Hanover to Morristown during Lafayette's visit to America."1
