Alice Dowding, daughter of Thomas Dowding and Alice Pickering, was born say 1670.1 She died after 18 July 1724, when she was called widow "Alice Gibbes" in her mother's will.2

Alice married (1) Henry Thornhill, son of Colonel Timothy Thornhill and Susannah (…), probably before 1689;3 she married (2) (…) Gibbes, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), between 1694 and 1724, when she was styled as the widow Alice Thornhill and widow Alice Gibbes in the wills of her parents.4

It is possible that Stephen Gibbs is the deceased (…) Gibbes implied in in her mother's will, dated 18 Jul 1724, when Alice Dowding styled her daughter as Alice Gibbes, widow. Stephen Gibbs left a will, dated 19 February 1701/2 and proved 5 Apr 1712, stating he was of St. Lucy's Parish, and named or mentioned:
Children Alice Gibbs at 18, John Gibbs and Stephen Gibbs both at 21, and the child my wife Alice Gibbes goes with.
-s- Stephen Gibbes
witnesses: John Jordon, John Aritage, Xtopher: Barrow

There is no record of any other Gibbs man leaving a will or being buried on Barbados between dates of the wills of Alice Dowding's parents.

If she in fact did marry Stephen Gibbes, in the 1715 census forSt. Lucy's Parish "Elce Gibbes and her family" were counted with 2 men ages 26 & 17; 3 women ages 47, 17, 18; one boy age 5. Besides herself, the rest of the family were unnamed.5,6
