Joan Arderne, daughter of Thomas Arderne and Margaret Gascoigne, died after 22 May 1480, when she is named in the will of her mother-in-law.1

Joan married Thomas Creyke, son of Alexander Creyke and Isabel White.2

Joan is shown as the daughter of Thomas Ardern of Marton and Margaret Gascoigne in Clay's Dugdale's Visitation. However, their wills appear to disprove the relationship:
* Thomas wrote his will 14 December 1453 which was proved 16 January 1655. In it, he named his wife Margaret, a son Nicholas, and daughters Elizabeth, Margaret, and Cecilia.
* Margaret wrote her will 15 June 1458 and it was proved 8 July 1458. In it, she named her children Anthony (not in Thomas' will), Nicholas, daughters Elizabeth, Cecily, Margaret, and Joan, a nun (monacse) (also not in Thomas' will).

The 1563/4 Visitation of York shows Jane was the daughter of ... Arden of Marton, but this is five generations before the visitation was made. This seems to be the reasoning behind Clay's conclusion that she was the daughter of Thomas Arden, overlooking or ignoring the number of intervening generations and the wills.3
