John Marshal, son of John FitzGilbert "the Marshal" and Sibyl de Salisbury, was born about 1145.1 He was killed while defending at Marlborough Castle, Wiltshire, England, in March 1194, for John, Count of Mortain (later King John).2 He was buried at Bradenstoke Priory, Wiltshire, England.2

John married Joan de Port, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here).1 John also had a mistress, Alice de Coleville, with whom he had all his children, a son and three daughters.1
