Sir Hervey Bagot, Knt., whose ancestry is uncertain, died before 25 August 1214,1 and was buried at Stone, Staffordshire, England.1
Hervey married Millicent de Stafford, daughter of Sir Robert de Stafford, Knt. and Avice (…), before 1193.1
"Eyton has pointed out (Hist. Collns. Staffs., vol. ii, pt. 1, p. 249) that Hervey was certainly descended from Bagot, who held Bramshall under Robert de Stafford in 1086 (Domesday Book, vol. i, f. 249). A Bagot appears in the Pipe Roll of 31 Hen. I (p. 74). Members of the family occur frequently as witnesses, but it is not clear whether the Hervey Bagot of 1166 was grandson or great-grandson of the Bagot of 1086; nor is it certain whether it was he, or his son, who m. Millicent. See also Wrottesley's "History of the Bagot family" in Hist. Collns. Staffs., N .S., vol. xi."1
He assumed the name of de Stafford when seised of the barony, which was his wife's inheritance from her brother, Robert.1
