Nathaniel Gardner, son of Richard Gardner and Sarah Shattuck, was born at Nantucket, Nantucket Co., Massachusetts, 16 January 1665/66.1 He died at Nantucket, before May 1713.2,3

Nathaniel married an unknown first wife, about 1685;4 he married (2) Abigail Coffin, daughter of James Coffin and Mary Severance, about 1695.5,6

Nathaniel left a will dated 18 March 1711, and probated 15 May 1713 naming no wife, eldest daughter Hannah Bunker and son Ebenezer Gardner. Hannah was singled out for "taking and bringing up her younger sister."

Per the terms of the will, the older children were to divide the real estate and distribute the proceeds to the rest of the children. In 1716, the executors (Ebenezer Gardner, Peleg Gardner, Benjamin Barnard, and Jabez Bunker) met to accomplish that and the distribution went to:
