Marie of England, Abbess of Romsey, Countess of boulogne, daughter of Stephen of Blois, King of England and Maud of Boulogne, died at the Monastery of St. Austreberthe, Montreuil, France, in 1182.1

In 1160, on orders of King Henry II, Marie was forced to resign as abbess of Romsey, renounce her monastic vows, and marry Mathieu of Flanders, son of Thierry of Lorraine and Sybil of Anjou.1
