Jean I d'Avesnes, Count of Hainault, son of Bouchard d'Avesnes, Chev., Bailli of Hainault and Marguerite of Flanders, was born 1 May 1218.1 He died 24 December 1257.1 Both he and his wife were buried at church of the Dominicans, Valenciennes, France.1

Jean married Aleide of Holland, regent of Holland, daughter of Floris IV, Count of Holland and Machteld of Brabant, 9 October 1246.1
