In 1720, the town proprietors approved an agreement that William continue to lease four acres that his father had leased before him.

The voters of Watertown elected him Tythig man, 1 March 1724/5, a town officer who would be the general moral police of the town, and preserved order during church services (and enforce attendance). The next year his bond was accepted by the town for £300, proving his standing in the town.
