William Goding, son of William Goding and Mary Pease, was born at Watertown, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, 24 April 1703.1 He died at Watertown, in 1757.2,1,3
William married (1) Martha Spooner, daughter of Peter Spooner and Rebecca Coolidge, at Watertown, in 1731;4,2 he married (2), as her 2nd husband, Mercy Grant, daughter of Joseph Grant and Mary Grafton, at Watertown, 8 October 1753.2,1
William was taxed in Medford in 1728 and elected Fence Viewer 7 March 1743.
The family was devastated by "throat dispemper" that resulted in the deaths of Martha, and four of the children, just after she had given birth to the youngest, Spencer, in the summer of 1749.
He owned two tracts of land; one he sold in 1752 and the second in 1761; these were most likely portions of his father's lands which he had divided with his brother Henry.5,6 [There must be some confusion over these land records as William reportedly died in 1757.]
