Thomas Atwater, son of Robert Atwater, was born at Royton, Lenham, Kent, England, about 1500.1 He died at Royton, 1547.1

Thomas married Johan (…), whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), in about 1518.1

Thomas left a will dated 28 November 1546, 28 Nov 37th Henry VIII (1546), proved 1 Dec 1547. He bequeaths his "soule to Allmyghtee God," and directs that his body be buried in the churchyard of Lenham. He gives "Fyve m'rks of money to be bestowed at my burrill and monthes day to be distributed to Priestes, clarks, and poor people by the discresion of my sonnes Thomas and Christopher;" to wife Johan, sons Thomas, Christopher, Edward, William, daughter Alice. Properties mentioned are "one messuage called wards and one gardeyn." another messuage and garden "att Grants Gate at Royton, called tenne acres of land." "My house the which I now dwell in, and gardeyn," and twenty two pieces of land of which the following are name among others, Bromefeld, Bromecroft, and Randall's in Boughton Malherbe.

"Item I wyll to the sayd Chrostopher Atwater, my sonne, another messuage and one gardeyn, sitt., lying and neing att Grants Gate att Royton, called tenne acres and fyve pieces of lande, with the appurtanances thereunto apperteyning, whereof one called Bromfeld, the Bromecroft and one other called Randoll's lying and being in the sayd parish of Boughton, the other two pieces (Parkfields) adjoin near unto the house or messuage aforesaid, to be had to the sayd Christopher Atwater and his heyres forever... And further I wyll if any of my sayd sonnes shall alynene or sell [any?] of his or their lands or tenements before they or he shall come to the age of 31 years, then I wyll that all such lands and tenements shall remayn immediately among his other brethren, to be had to them and their heyers forever." (Archdeaconry Court, Canterbury, 25:3.)2
