ChartsAncestors of Edward Ambrose Cooke
Christopher Atwater, son of Thomas Atwater and Johan (…), was born at Royton, Lenham, Kent, England, about 1530.1 He died at Royton, in 1573.1

Christopher married Marion (…), whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), say 1558.1,2

Christopher made his will 24 Feb 1573 (15 Queen Elizabeth), proved 6 Apr 1573. It is a long will and is excerpted in the Atwater Genealogy, and copied in the Stevens Miller Ancestry (pp. 468-9). The Atwater Genealogy also prints a list of heirs in the will, which shows that it omitted at least one important paragraph, stating that Christopher's will mentioned his wife Marryon, his sons Davyd, George, Matthew, John, and daughter Joane, brothers, Thomas and William, nephew "Adam Water"; and give to Matthew the property called Bromefield. The extracted paragraphs do not mention any son Matthew nor the property at Bromefield. The parcels of real estate clearly show the descent of the family down to the immigrants, Joshua and David. "Adam Water" was evidently the son of Edward, the brother of Christopher, who probably had died before the latter made his will.1
