Charles II "the bald," King of Franks and Western Emperor, son of Louis I "the Pious," Emperor and Judith of Bavaria, was born at Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany, 13 June 823.1,2,3,4 He died at Brides-les-Bains, France, 6 October 877,1,3,4 and was first buried at Nanuta monastery, Ain, France.4 He was later reinterred at St. Denise, France.4

Charles married (1) Ermentrude of Orléans, daughter of Eudes, Count of Orléans and Engeltrude, at Quierzy, Aisne, France, 13 December 842;1,2,3,4 he married (2) Richardis of Metz, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), 22 November 870.1,3
