Louis I "the Pious," Emperor, son of Charlemagne, King of the Franks, Emperor of the Romans and Hildegarde, was born at Chasseneuil-du Poitou, Aquitain, France, in August 778.1,2,3 He died 20 June 840,2,3 and was buried at Metz, France.3

Louis married (1) Ermengarde of Haspengau, daughter of Ingram, Count of Haspengau, about 794;2,4,5,3 he married (2) Judith of Bavaria, daughter of Welf, Count of Schwabemund and Heilwig, at Aachen, Germany, in February 819.1,2,3
