ChartsDescendants of Ellis Cook-6 Generations
Temperence (…), whose ancestry is unknown or not traced here, was born in 1704.1 She died at Southampton, Suffolk Co., New York, 9 December 1723,2,1,3,4 and was buried at the Water Mill Cemetery, Southampton, Suffolk Co., New York.1,5

Temperence married Ellis Cook, son of Abiel Cook and Frances (…), before 1723.1,2,6

Opposite the water mill east of Southampton, in a small and old burying ground (on a homestead formerly owned by Hedges Sanford) is a gravestone marked: "Here lyes the body of Temperrence Cook, wife of Mr. Ellis Cook, who died Dec 9 1723 in ye 19th year of her age."

It is tempting to think that she was the sister of Job Wick who married Ellis' sister, Anna. However, the 1698 list of inhabitants shows the John Wick family with a daughter Temperance, obviously born before that date and too old to be the wife of Ellis Cook. The Mecox cemetery holds the remains of "Mrs Temperance Ludlam Wife to Mr. Jeremiah Ludlam who Decd. April ye 21st, 1726, in ye 29th year of her age" who is most likely the Temperance Wick in the list of inhabitants. The first wife of Ellis Cook remains unidentified.7,8,9
