Sir Gilbert de Clare, Knt., 4th Earl of Hertford, son of Sir Richard de Clare, Knt., 3rd Earl of Hertford and Amice of Gloucester, Countess of Clare, was born about 1180.1 He died at Penros, Gloucestershire, England, 25 October 1230,2 and was buried before the high altar at Tewkesbury Abbey, Gloucestershire, England, 11 November 1230.2

Gilbert married Isabel Marshal, daughter of Sir William Marshal, Knt., 3rd Earl of Pembroke and Isabel de Clare, 9 October 1217.2
