Ralph Earle, son of Raulphe Earle, was born probably shortly before his baptism at Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, England, 9 February 1606.1 He died at Portsmouth, Newport Co., Rhode Island, about 1678.1

Ralph married Joan Savage, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), at Bishop's Stortford, 29 June 1631.1,2

Ralph was in Newport by 1 Oct 1638. 30 Apr 1639 he signed a declaration with others binding themselves into a community which became Portsmouth. In 1640 he sold land to William Baulstone. He was made innkeeper, 26 Aug 1647, was treasurer of the town 2 Jul 1649 and 1650, and was member of the General Assembly, 29 Aug 1650. He joined a Troop of Horse in 1667 and was later made its captain. In 1651 he was tax assessor and served on the Grand Jury in 1669.

He made his will 19 Nov 1673 calling himself "of Portsmouth." He gave to eldest son, Ralph Earle; to Ralph, the son of son William Earle, to three daughters, Mary, wife of William Cory; Martha wife of William Wood; Sarah, widow to the late Thomas Cornell. He made his wife Joan executor and friend John Tripp, the elder, his overseer.3
