Josiah White, son of John White and Joane West, was born, probably in England, about 16381 and later baptized at Salem, Essex Co., Massachusetts, 4 June 1643.1,2 He died at Lancaster, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, 11 November 1714.1

Josiah married (1) Mary Lewis, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), say 1672;1,3 he married (2) Mary Rice, daughter of Thomas Rice and Mary King, at Lancaster, 28 November 1678.4,3

Josiah White removed to Lancaster with his parents before May 1653. He remained in Lancaster as an adult, and was Commander of a garrison house on the West side of Peicook River, called "the Neck," 15 Apr 1704. He apparently was a prominent man of the town holding several important offices and serving on various committees.

He appears in several deeds of Middlesex County:

17:257—Same & w. Mary exchange lands with their son John White at Pond meadow, 18 December 1712.

He died intestate, and administration was granted to his widow Mary. The heirs later confirmed a sale Josiah had made sometime earlier:
