Sir Roger Mortimer, Knt., 4th Earl of March, 7th Earl of Ulster, Lord Mortimer, son of Sir Edmund de Mortimer, Knt., 3rd Earl of March, Lord Mortimer of Wigmore and Philippe of Clarence, was born at Usk, Monmouthshire, Wales, 11 April 1374.1 He was killed at Kells, Ireland, 20 July 1398, "while engaged in a rash attack on some of the Leinster clans. It is reported that he was riding unattended, attired in the Irish manner in front of his army, and was unrecognised by those who killed him."1 His corpse was quartered but later reassembled for burial at Wigmore Abbey, Herefordshire, England.1

Roger married Eleanor Holand, daughter of Sir Thomas de Holand, K.G., 2nd Earl of Kent, Lord Holand, 6th Lord Wake and Alice de Arundel, about 7 October 1388.2,1
