Oliver Gilhampton
Charts | Ancestors of Harriet Hanson Robinson |
Oliver Gilhampton, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), married Elizabeth (…), whose ancestry is also unknown (or not traced here).1
In the baptism records of his daughters, Oliver is named as the father of two of them (Anne and Mary) , and here we presume him to be the unnamed father of Katherine and Elizabeth. On 18 September 1681, his household at St. Michael's Parish, included three children, one bought servant, and three slaves. There are no Gilhampton burials, and only Katherine and Mary have marriage records. Presumably one of the girls, Anne or Elizabeth, died before the census.
There being no other Gilhampton families evident in Barbados, a mention of Elizabeth Galhampton in the the 1673 will of Catherine Thomson, widow, implies Elizabeth must be the wife of Oliver. Catherine calls Elizabeth "my kinswoman" and mentioned " her eldest daughter, my God daughter." Katherine is likely that eldest daughter, and was perhaps named for her God mother. The exact relationship between Catherine and Elizabeth has not been determined.
Oliver witnessed the will of John Richardson, 31 Jan 1670, and the undated will of William Withington Sr. that was proved 28 Aug 1672.
He was named as "Doctor" in the will of Mary Preston, widow, of "St. Michaels Town", dated 18 September 1681.2,3,4
