Caleb Hill, son of Jonathan Hill and Elizabeth Hail, was born at Swansea, Bristol Co., Massachusetts, 25 June 1728.1 He died at Adams, Berkshire Co., Massachusetts, July 1797.2
Caleb married (1) Bethany Luther, whose ancestry is not traced here, at Swansea, 23 November 1749;3 he married (2), as her 2nd husband, Mary Jolls, daughter of Thomas Jolls and Mehitable Ormsby, at Swansea, 29 July 1766.4,5
In 1790, his household was probably the one enumerated at Adams, with 2 free white males over 16, 2 under 16, and 3 free white females.6
Caleb left a will dated 4 May 1797, and proved 1 August 1797. In it, he named:
At probate court it was noted that 1 August 1797, "being more than fourteen days after death of Testator…" Nehemiah Field, Oziel Sayles and George Jencks, all of Adams, were appointed to tak an inventory of the estate. The widow (Mary) waived "the provision made for her in his will and claims her right of Dower according to law…"
The inventory was filed 4 October 1797 and totaled $1673.57. In a further entry, Bernard Hill was given license to sell the personal estate for One Hundred Dollars at a private Sale or public auction as he thinks best.
On 6 Mar 1798 Bernard Hill presented his first account, and the next day the distribution was ordered. The husbands of the married daughters are named:

sons Barnet Hill, Luther Hill, Jonathan Hill, & James T. Hill were to have "the above mentioned one half the farm"…"in equal shares after the expiration of the Term for which I have bequeathed the same to my said beloved wife."
other sons were given Ten Dollars in addition to what they had already been given: Amos Hill * Caleb Hill
Three unmarried daughters, Anna Hill, Mary Francis, and Martha Hill to receive one cow.
Five other daughters, Elizabeth Brightman, Sarah Sabins, Parthany Brightman, Patience Luther, Phebe Pane to receive twenty Dollars
All eight daughters were to divide the household furniture in equal shares
The five sons were to divide Caleb's wearing apparel and" all thre rest residue and remainder of my Personal Estate Goods and Chattels of what kind and nature so ever…"
