James Stewart, son of Duncan Stuart and Ann Winchurst, was born at Newbury, Essex Co., Massachusetts, 8 October 1664.1 He died at Rowley, Essex Co., Massachusetts, 17 September 1750.1

James married (1) Elizabeth (…), whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), say 1687;1,2,3 he married (2) Sarah Prime, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), at Rowley, 25 June 1733.4

James Stewart appears on the Newbury tax-list of 1688 and he served in the Canada Expedition, 1690, from that town.

He is first mentioned on Rowley Records in 1693. In Rowley his wife was admitted to the church 20 Oct 1695; he on 12 Feb 1698/9. From 1709-1723 he lived on the "John Pickard Farm" in Boxford, attending church in Bradford. When he returned to Rowley, about 1723, he located in that part of Rowley now known as Georgetown. He was a carpenter and planter.4
