Samuel C. Logan, son of Reverend John Logan and Nancy Newell, was born at Simpson Co., Kentucky, 24 October 1822.1,2,3,4,5 He died at Blandinsville, McDonough Co., Illinois, 7 June 1878, and was buried at South Cemetery, Hire Township, McDonough Co., Illinois.1

Samuel married Paulina Girton, daughter of Dickinson Garten and Clara Green, at Blandinsville 7 November 1850.6

Samuel's early life was spent in Schuyler County, obtaining a fair education. His farm, which he improved, was in Blandinsville. He also owned a considerable amount of land elsewhere. The following is from the Macomb Journal at the time of his death: "He needs no man's testimony to prove his devotion to God, and to the welfare of the race, having spent forty-six years of his pilgrimage here as a Christian, being converted at ten years of age." His last words were "Jesus is with me in this my hour of death."7,8'
