Benjamin Ely, son of Moses Ely and Rebekah Cook, was born at Livingston, Essex Co., New Jersey, 3 December 1792.1 He died at Carrolton, Carol Co., Missouri, 19 February 1860.2

Benjamin married (1) Eliza Bell, daughter of Clement Bell and Margaret Steele, in 1822;1 he married (2), as her 2nd husband, Martha Washington Allen, daughter of Richard Allen and Pamelia McCracken, in 1837.1
