Sir Brian Hastings, Knt., son of Sir Hugh Hastings, Knt. and Ann Gascoigne, was born after 20 June 1482, when he was not named in his father's will that stated his wife was "grete with childe."1 He died before 8 October 1540, when his will was proved.1

Brian married (1) Agnes Portington, daughter of Thomas Portington and Isabel Kiddall;2,3 he married (2) Elizabeth Leake, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here).1

Before he was knighted, Brian had a vehement quarrel with Sir Richard Tempest, requiring the persuasion of Cardinal Wolsey to resolve, the two using "each to other stout and despiteful words of defiance, the which my lord and the other gentlemen had much ado to qualify, their malice was so great."4

Brian left a will dated 2 August 1537, and proved 8 Oct 1540:1
