Abel Burritt, son of Abel Burritt and Eunice Austin, was born at New Haven, Connecticut, 18 July 1783.1,2,3 He died at New Milford, Connecticut, 28 July 1862,1 and was buried at Grove St. Cemetery, New Haven, Connecticut.4

Abel married (1) Henrietta McCrackan, daughter of William McCrackan and Sarah Miles, at New Haven, 22 March 1807;1 he married (2) Nancy Hotchkiss, whose ancestry is unknown (or not traced here), 22 October 1820.1

The town records show:
Sally Burritt married Nathan Hinman 10 May 1821
Maria Burritt married Peter Cowdery 1 Sep 1829
Daniel Burritt married Caroline Mansfield 29 Sep 1829
A child of Abel Burritt died of Hydrocephalus, age 7, 11 May 1829.
A wife of Abel Burritt died 7 May 1849. Her late residence was New York, but was buried in New Haven.
Lavina Burritt died of Dysentery, age 15, 14 Sep 1849.
Mrs Nancy Burritt died 3 Jul 1863, age 65.

Sally would not be old enough to marry in 1821 if she were the daughter of Abel and Henrietta.

The evidence strongly supports Maria as the daughter of Abel and Henrietta: Her marriage announcement stated she was the daughter of Abel Burritt of New Haven. According to her burial record, she was 45 when she died, placing her birth in 1808, one year after Henrietta and Abel married. Also, she named one of her children Henrietta McCracken, likely after her mother.

Daniel is probably a son of Abel and Henrietta; the other two of Abel and Nancy.

The wife who died in 1849 is unplaced and not the wife of this Abel Burritt if the Nancy who died in 1863 was his wife. However, our Abel had no wives in the 1850 & 1860 census if placed correctly.5
